Ivan’s experience encompasses work in the Belarusian and in an international commercial context, where the Client’s  interests required an understanding of the laws and business practices of multiple jurisdictions. He has provided legal advice is such diverse fields as international trade in petroleum products, major real estate developments, settlement of corporate disputes, negotiation of investment agreements and special regulations for foreign investors and many others. Ivan believes that the key task of a skilled legal counsellor is to strike an stable equilibrium between the rules of the law and the expectations of the client.

Ivan practices law starting from 2003.

  • Advising an international petroleum products trading group of companies on all aspects of law related to its business, including upstream, transshipment and downstream contracts, trade finance, freight and insurance (in in-house lawyer capacity);

  • Along with another leading Belarusian law firm advised a Swiss company on the acquisition of a controlling stake in a Belarusian watch maker;

  • Advised a Middle Eastern sovereign investment fund on issues related to an investment contract with the Belarusian state for a major real estate development including a hotel, sports centre and other facilities, including the negotiation of special regulatory conditions for the investor;

  • Advised a local subsidiary of the same investor on the implementation of the above investment project, including land rights, negotiation of multiple design, construction and engineering contracts, franchise agreement with Marriott International, operation contracts for the hotel and the sports centre, represented the Client in courts and coordinated a team of lawyers in connection with day-to-day legal advice to the local subsidiary;

  • Advised a US investor of the drafting of a contract for the construction and design of one of the largest retail malls in Belarus;

  • Advised a leading Turkish clothing manufacturer on retail space leases for the launch of its retail network in Belarus.Advised an Italian investor in its dispute with a Belarusian partner and developed a subsequent plan for settlement and the restructuring of ownership of the real estate assets of the Belarusian company;

  • Advised a private investor from the Middle East on his joint venture with a Belarusian developer for the construction of a shopping mall.

Advised a Russian industrial group on the following matters:

  • entry into an investment contract with the state of Belarus for the purchase of a controlling stake in a Belarusian government-owned manufacturing company;

  • due diligence and drafting of a legal opinion regarding the Client’s investment into several Belarusian companies in connection with the client’s IPO on the London Stock Exchange.
