From January 26 to 28, 2018, with the support of SBH Law Office, the Belarusian National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held. This year the Belarusian rounds have collected a record number of teams, namely 15, which indicates the growing popularity and importance of international competitions in Belarus.

Topics of the Jessup Competition in 2018: the validity of interstate arbitration decisions, the seizure of a sea vessel, violation of obligations for nuclear disarmament and the conduct of a naval war.

The winner of the Belarusian rounds was the team of the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University. The 2nd place was taken by the team of MITSO. This year 2 teams will represent the country in Washington at the international stage of the competition. Congratulations to the winners and good luck!

p.s. The Philip C. Jessup Competition is the largest and the most prestigious judicial competition in international law among students. The competition annually attracts about 2,500 students from more than 550 legal institutions of higher education in 85 countries. The competition is organized by the International Association of Law Students (ILSA).

We would like to remind you that the Jessup Competition is a competition in the form of a game trial. Students act as advocates, representing the positions of their clients (states) in the UN International Court of Justice on a fictional, but often based on real events, dispute.
